Wald attends RAGBRAI 2009
07/22/2009
Wald made the 800 mile trip from Maysville, KY to Council Bluffs, IA to attend the RAGBRAI Expo on Saturday, July 18.
RAGBRAI (short for 'Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa') is the longest running recreational bike tour in the United States. The Des Moines Register, Iowa's principal newspaper, decided in 1973 to put together a little event to bring in some cyclo-tourists and drum up publicity for their publication. Little did they know they set the stage for what has become the largest freewheelin' bicycle spectacle west of the Mississippi river!
Everyday, for 7 days, approximately 8,500 cyclists venture across the state along a pre-determined and fully supported route. Some camp, some reside in rented RV's, and a few are lucky enough to book hotel rooms along the way each night.
Wald was happy to participate in the annual Expo preceding the ride's launch and look forward to many more years of participating.
Thanks to our friends at Seattle Bike Supply for an assortment of Redline and Torker bicycles to display our baskets and bags/liners for the folks to see.
Also a special thanks to all the RAGBRAI expo staff for making us feel welcome.
