Wald baskets, racks, and fenders seem to enjoy a special place in the hearts of urban riders. We like to think it's specifically due to our great quality, reliability, and looks. More than likely it's due to our great pricing. So you get incredible quality for not a whole lot of money. We like that just fine.
It's hard to draw a definitive line between urban riders and messengers. Many times they are exactly the same person. Probably the only real difference is urban riders don't necessarily rely on the bike for income. Rather, they prefer the convenience and liberty bicycles offer. Like commuters, they realize you can pretty much get anywhere you need to on a bike. Like messengers, they appreciate rebuilding older frames into useful rides or have a particular fondness for quality steel bicycles.
We may be splitting hairs here, but we think all cyclists deserve credit when due. Wald encourages urban riders to keep fighting the good fight as our cities need more bike lanes, public racks, and local advocacy. You ladies and gents are the most active on those fronts and all cyclists benefit from your voice. Tune into our friends Brad and Jeff at Urban Velo for all the latest happenings in the urban cycling scene.
Also, feel free to check out the Kansas City Urban Cyclist Project. Urban Velo contributor ©hrisGo! just posted photos from shoot # 2 in his ongoing documentary of urban cycling on his Flickr page. Nice pix ©hrisGo! We're especially fond of the puppy dog shots.
